Phone card or private car message in Australia?

Choose a phone card if you want someone beside your car to try a call without joining a service. Choose private messaging if keeping your number out of view matters more. Both rely on someone noticing the contact route and someone else being able to answer.

A phone card is simple, but public. A contact app gives more control over the conversation, with more steps for the sender.

The current Google Play app does not support plate contact for US, Canadian or Australian plates.

A QR that opens a phone call still shares a calling route. One that opens a chat may work differently. Test your own code before leaving it as the only way to reach you.

Prepare private contact for your car

An Australian plate address needs Australia, the issuing state or territory and the complete rego.

The current Google Play app does not support plate contact for US, Canadian or Australian plates.

For supported plates, Replyte keeps phone numbers out of the conversation and requires the sender to use the app.

A supported, claimed car can have a QR and printable PDF. The scan leads to opening or installing Replyte, then continuing in the app. If you want a ringing call instead, compare the Australian QR relay options in the driver-contact service comparison.

For supported plates, an unclaimed-plate message waits for a claim for up to 30 days, then expires. A claimed car can receive messages without that wait, although a reply is not guaranteed.

Plan for the situations a message cannot solve

A contact card is not permission to block a driveway. In Sydney’s Inner West, for example, the council’s blocked-driveway page directs affected residents to its parking service. A visible number does not remove the need for that route when the car stays put.

After damage, follow the applicable crash-reporting and insurance process. For an emergency, call 000 rather than relying on a phone card or private reply.

For everyday contact, choose a route you will maintain: a current number, a tested code or a properly identified app account. Put it where it can be read without interfering with your view while driving.

Get Replyte from Google Play. The iOS app is not available yet.
